Programme Content

Programmes are all about gaining the business skills you need to start or run a business

You will learn about networks; practice extensively networking skills; develop your own national and regional network

A personal mentor will work with you during the 3 day residential. Ongoing expertise and support from Flying Start will get you trading within 12 months or growing quickly.

Key elements are:

• Networking
  
• Knowledge workshops - finance, marketing, funding, protecting your intellectual property, planning, strategyo acquire and develop networking skills
  
• Personal skills workshops - managing customers, networking, presenting, influencing, time management, working with a mentor.
  
• Working with a mentor - experienced entrepreneurs provide expert advice and support

Sector Programmes

Women in Science - for any physical science related business

1. Creative industries - for businesses in design, ceramics, jewellery, fashion, crafts industries
   
2. Arts - for businesses in performing arts, film, media, theatre, drama
   
3. Women - for any businesses which are majority women-owned
   
4. Engineers - for any business with an engineering-related focus
   

Criteria for Applicants

To be eligible to attend a Flying Start Programme you need to meet the following criteria:

• Either be a UK University final year student or graduate of up to 5 years
• You must be considering starting a business in the next 12 months or have
• started a business which has been trading for less than 12 months
• Although you can trade Internationally you must be planning to base the business in the UK.
