Custom Audiences Skyrocketed My Facebook Ad Returns

Welcome back!

As you know, Facebook Advertising is the foundation of Common Panda

In fact, it’s not unreasonable to assume that roughly 99% of all sales on our public dropshipping website have come via Facebook ads.

Enjoy the video as Rito reveals how we skyrocketed past $130,000:

The one thing that helped us scale quickly and dramatically has been the use of custom audiences.

And with custom audiences, comes three specific facets:

  • Exclusion Lists (We’ve Covered Exclusion Lists Here)
  • Retargeting (We’ve Covered Retargeting Here)
  • Lookalikes (We’ll cover this soon)

When it comes to lookalike audiences we will be covering this topic in greater detail, in an upcoming post.

For now just understand this…

We suggest waiting a minimum of 100 sales before creating a lookalike audience. Don’t create a lookalike audience for a specific product until that product has reached at least 100 sales from existing ads.

Around here, we prefer to wait until we’ve generated more than 500 sales for a specific product. When you wait until you’ve generated this many sales, the lookalike audience become incredibly powerful.

Truly takes your business to the next level.

3 Facets of Custom Audiences

Today we’re focusing on Custom Audiences.

A Custom Audience from a customer list is a type of audience you can create that’s made up of your existing customers. You can target ads to the audience you’ve created on Facebook, Instagram, and Audience Network.

You simply upload, copy and paste or import your hashed customer list, then Facebook uses the hashed data from it to match the people on your list to people on Facebook.

From within your Facebook business account, click “Asset library” followed by “All Tools” and then “Audiences.”

From there you’ll click, “Create Audience,” and then select either “Customer File,” or “Website Traffic.”.

We want real people who have visited our website to be targeted by this audience.

If you do in fact choose to use “Customer File” export your customer file from MailChimp or Shopify, etc use it to build this particular custom audience.

Before we go any further, we’re assuming you’ve already got your Facebook Tracking Pixel installed on your website.

If not, go here.

When we create custom audiences, we prefer the “Website Traffic” option.

Meaning our Exclusion Audience will consist of people who have actually visited our website in the past 90 days.

Name your audiences something that tells you what it is at a glance.

Create Your Custom Audience

Targeting A Custom Audience

Login to your Facebook Business Manager account and perform the following:

  • Click “Audiences” drop down menu in the upper left corner of the page.
  • Click “Create Audience” -> “Custom” -> select “Website Traffic”
  • On the following page select, “Visitors” -> “In the Past 90 Days”
  • We’ll name ours “FSO Visitors 90 Days” <- name yours accordingly
  • Click “Create Audience”

Audience created.

Creating multiple custom audiences, with multiple video or graphic creatives; is in a sense a Facebook advertising hack.

Facebook regards new ads from the same advertiser as being a sign of quality.

When you use the same ads for a while without mixing it up, you won’t get the same exposure.

That’ll do it for Episode 9 – Great work!
